The Other Side Of The Dee

I got kicked out of the hostel this morning. They said they were fully booked. Luckily I knew this a few days ago and arranged another hostel for tonight and tomorrow night. Back to the old one on Sunday. This new hostel is a YHA hostel so it's a £17.50 instead of £15 but it looks better. It's an older building and has loads of space.

That is the reason for me having to move hostels. Everyones in town for the Chester Races. Today has been insane but tomorrow will be busy too. LOADS of slappers around. You know the girls that wear big black boots, short skirts and tight tops. Well slappers are a chunky version of those girls. Having said that... there is an abundance of non slappers too :D!

On that note I'm going back out to walk around the street ;)

Family Facts

Last night I got REALLY drunk with some Polish fellows. One of them picked my Croatian surname instantly. He even told me how to pronounce it correctly. So I found out alittle about my fathers side of the family. Happy Chappy.

Well since I can now upload videos to my blog, heres a few from before.
Inverlochy Castle At Fort William

The Petrified Wall at Mother Shipton's Cave Park in Knaresborough.

River Tyne at Newcastle view from the Millenium Bridge

With Ray and Vera on the coast, Kite Surfing

My favourite one of all... Belfast Bonfire!

I've got a better video of this but some people may find it offensive :(

Well, I went for an interview this morning (serverely hungover), but they called me earlyer on and I have a trial on Saturday at 7pm. Good ol' English pubs! So reliable. Ok time to go now anyway. Hope that'll keep ya goin for a little while.

Chester

Well since I last posted, I stayed another couple of nights in York then went on to Chester, just out of Wales. The cities are very similar in style, both with city walls, a market and a large cathedral.

I got some salami sticks from the genuine german meat stall at the market place. Made some new friends, walked around the city walls, drank some grog... all that jazz.

This inside the oldest church in Chester.

This is one of the stalls at the market.

And a typical Cheshire street

The Roman's were so smart... Underfoot Heating

And my favourite of all.... Itchy Squizza

Kay, Lunch time and I'm going to a job center to find me some money. SEEYA!

I've Gone Museum Mad!

Today, I got up late, Had vegemite on toast an juice, went to Jorvik Viking Centre. I managed to swindle a concession ticket, so it wasn't as expensive as I thought it was gonna be.

They started off taking us down in a... "Time Machine", which had "Time Travel Turbulence" (the seats rocked back and forth slightly) then all of a sudden we over shot our time destination. So we each had to hop into Time Pods to travel through the old Viking city of Jorvik.

When that finished up I went over to the York Castle Museum and also managed to get in on concession prices. The founder of the museum has re-created the "streets of olde" using "olde" materials.

He started collecting the old doors, window frames, genuine fire carts and old candle making machines. All authentic and you can actually walk into the buildings down the street. There was an old lolly shop, toy maker, police station and gaol, school, fire department, the works, all set along an old cobbled road.

Well that was todays fun-ness, now for yesterdays walk around York. Started with the River Ouse and some local wildlife. These two thought I had some food for them, the food was for me. Tee Hee.

Went over to the castle and Clifford's Tower.

Then onto York Minster on the other side of town.

I went to all these places via the Castle Walls.

This is an old Ice Room for keeping snakes...

No just kidding, Obviously it was for the ice they collected in winter, to be used in summer. Then over to the Yorkshire Museum Gardens for a nice view of a ruin.

Well this place is about to close and I'm getting hungry so I best be off. Oh and I rang up for the job again, no luck :(

Oh well seeya next time.

York It Up!

Got the train to York this morning from Harrogate. While I was waiting, a steam train came through. Both sides of the train station were packed, then when the steam train left... everyone else did the same.
I ended up getting a good hostel not to far from the station. Rang up for a job in a pub today an all. Gotta wait to hear back from them.

After lunch I headed over to the Castle Wall around York center and then walked, and walked, and walked. Good views of house tops and peoples back yards. Then on to a bottle shop. All that walking worked up a thirst only quenchable by alcohol. Well I supose water might have worked.

First thing tomorrow it's off to Jorvik Viking Centre and the York Castle Museum after that.
I think I got a little bit of sun today. I had a surprisingly cold shower, although quite enjoyable.
Ok, I'll get on the net cafe tomorrow with some pictures. Till then take care.

On Ilkley Moore Bar T'at

Everyone knows that age old saying, "When in Rome..." Well I'm in Yorkshire but I'll be buggered if I'm gonna sing "On Ilkley Moore Bar T'at" like they do. Well I did however, have a HUGE Yorkshire Pudding with roast beef and loads of rich gravy! No Risk.

Well since my last post, Ray and Vera took me down to Leeds so we could go to the races with friends of theirs.

Next day, out and about in Leeds, to see where mum and her family lived before they went to Australia. My mums the little one with the cheeky grin. The little devil.

Then onto Angela's house in Harrogate. Went out for a lovely dinner where I had the encounter with the Yorkshire Pud. Stayed at Angela and Paul's place last night and again tonight. I went for a drive with Anj this morning out to Knaresborough to see the Viaduct.

Also visited "Mother Shipton's cave" and the "Pertrefied Well", I made a wish, but I can't tell you what it is otherwise it won't come true. Short walk around and Anj found a secret garden.

End of that we had lunch... Pork Pies. Quite tasty but cold and there loaded with gelatine, so a little slimy. Then Angela went home and I walked around the town for a few hours. Through the city gardens and to a spot for a fantastic view.

About 2 hours later I was out of the gardens and into the pub, but not just any old pub. The Oldest Pub In Harrogate! Great place. They had pipes coming up out of the bar like bunson burners with a flame to light cigars, and the like.

Then made my way back here on foot via a music shop :p Y'all know me. Off to York tomorrow morning, first thing coz Angela will be off on holidays starting tomorrow. Might see about getting a job... fingers crossed. Well I'm tired and need a shower.

So talk to the bunch of ya later.

The Coast

Woke up with a hang over, went back to bed. Got up at about 9:30 and Ray cooked up a massive fry up. Bacon, eggs, sausages, potatoes, toast... The works!

Went for a drive to the coast with Ray and Vera. Stopped at Bamburgh so I could see a REAL beach, not one of those dodgy shingle or shell grit beaches. Got a decent photo of Bamburgh Castle too.

Nice place.
Went on to Beadnell to see 12 kite surfers all in a small bay, crazy windy.

Then off to Craster, "Home of the Kipper" and a pint at the pub while Vera had a nap in the car.

Well were off to the pub for a couple o night caps. Big day tomora, going to Leeds and to the horsies. Seeya

Laptops Are Crazy!

Hi there, i'm at Vera and Ray's place in Wooler. Vera is my mum's cousin and Godmother at the same time! Pretty crazy I know. Today I left Newcastle with a healthy breakfast of fruit and muesli in me gutts, to meet Ray at the (Charles Earl Grey) Monument. Yes the tea trader who made famous the Earl Grey tea. But better known as a politician in Newcastle.

Well I had a reasonably short trip on the train to a car park in which the car was parked. Then a short drive to Wooler via the first house in WORLD to be lit by electricity.

Well heres a couple of pics of the place and Vera and myself went to Berwick-upon-Tweed... Tee Hee silly names, I know.

Ray and Vera's place... Nice!

Well ima go watch some more rugby and drink some more of Ray's (very kindly offered) vodka.

Seeya!

In Newcastle With NO Photos, NO Music And NO Friends!

This is rediculous, REDICULOUS I tell you! The internet at this hostel is fast but extremely restricted. No USB(no photos), No head phones(no music), No MSN(no friends) even WebMessenger is blocked! GRRR

Well I had an early (8am) start this morning, with a brisk walk around the local area of Edinburgh, decent breakfast and made it to the bus station by 10am. All the way to Newcastle, which isn't that far really.

Went for a walk trying to find the Tourist Information Centre so they could tell me where my hostel was. But found my hostel along the way. Left over Stir-Fry for early lunch and an apple to wash it down with.

Went to the Castle and Black Gate, Down by Quayside found a really cool pedestrian bridge which tilts up to let boats through, and a swing bridge which pivots to let boats through. Crazy stuff!

Times up already! So seeya laters

Quick Travel

I have this "Explorer Pass" for the buses and it allows me to travel for any 5 days out of 10 for free. It expires at the end of tomorrow, and I still had 2 day worth of travel left. I decided to do a whirlwind tour of scotland.

Left a large bag in Edinburgh at the hostels long term storage. Booked a bus to Aberdeen, made it to Aberdeen. Found out there was no accomodation in Aberdeen, Left Aberdeen. Booked a bus to Aviemore, made it to Aviemore. Found out there was no accomodation in Aviemore, waited at the bus stand only to find out the last bus from Aviemore has been cancelled.

10:45pm, Cold, Homeless, Tired.
I rang one hostel 3 times and visited them once before I found out about the bus problem. So I was in a dilly of a pickle. I put on my gloves, beanie and warm clothes then found a nice dark spot, pretty dry and rested my head on my towel. Just got settled in when my phone rang. It was the hostel I rang 3 times. He said someone cancelled last minute and there was a single room available for £15.
YOU BLOODY RIPPER!

Anyways, got up this morning and went to the tourist info center. They helped me book tickets to Portree for tonight and back to Edinburgh for tomorrow. I couldn't find any accomodation in Portree so I got of the bus in Kyleakin instead, because I found a hostel there. As soon as I got here chucked on my boots and went for a trek to the "castle", which is more like a few stones and a pillar. I got photos but this computer won't let me put them on.

Anywhats I best be off to bed because I gotta be up early to bugger off again. Seeya!
